This medal was conferred in recognition of the preservation of the memory of the defeat of the Khmer Rouge by the Cambodian Forces on January 7, 1979.

There were 300 medals manufactured, but only 100 were awarded.

The obverse Khmer script translates to "Decoration, 7 January".
