Multi-piece construction, silver gilt with enamels and embedded glass beads, a large red bead in the centre, the smaller red bead in the single star at the top indicative of Grade I.
This Order was instituted by Emperor Kuangsi in recognition of exceptional service to the throne and the Qing court. Originally, it was only awarded to foreigners, but in 1908 it was expanded to include Chinese citizens as well.
The I Class, I Grade was conferred upon Emperors and foreign Kings.
The Republic of China replaced the Imperial Orders following its establishment in 1912.
The obverse Manchu inscriptions translate to "Great", "Great Qing", "Empire [or] Country", and "Class". The obverse Chinese characters translate to "Imperial [or] Emperor", "To Award", "Double", "Dragon", and "Precious", or "Imperially Awarded Double Dragon Precious Star".
