Of multi-piece construction, eight-pointed silver star base, the centrepiece in silver with teal, purple, light blue and dark blue enamels, two embedded coral beads, a large engraved orange-red (coral) bead in the centre, the smaller red bead in the single star at the top indicative of Third Grade, vertical pinback, intact enamels, very light contact on the reverse, extremely fine.
This Order was instituted by Emperor Kuangsi in recognition of exceptional service to the throne and the Qing court. Originally, it was only awarded to foreigners, but in 1908 it was expanded to include Chinese citizens as well.
The II Class, III Grade was conferred upon I rank Counselors, Military Generals, and Consul-Generals.
The Republic of China replaced the Imperial Orders following its establishment in 1912.
The obverse Manchu inscriptions translate to "Great", "Great Qing", "Empire [or] Country", and "Class". The obverse Chinese characters translate to "Imperial [or] Emperor", "To Award", "Double", "Dragon", and "Precious", or "Imperially Awarded Double Dragon Precious Star".
