History

This medal is conferred in recognition of 18 years of notable service with the Indian Army. The qualification period was reduced to 15 years of service in 1970. It is awarded to Non-Commissioned Officers with the rank of Dafadar/Havildar, Warrant Officers, Flight Sergeants, Sergeants, Chief Petty Officers, and Petty Officers.

This medal was issued with 2 different ribbons: 1st ribbon (1957-69); 2nd ribbon (1969-).

The reverse features inscriptions in English and Hindi. The Hindi inscription reads as "Sarahniy Seva ke liye".
