History

This medal was conferred upon civilians, military personnel, and members of the Police and Paramilitary Forces in recognition of service during the Indo-Pakistani War.

It was awarded for service in the areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Gujarat, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Assam, Mehalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura between December 3, 1971 to December 20, 1972.

The obverse features inscriptions in English and Hindi. The Hindi inscription reads as "Sangram Medal".
