Physical Description and Item Details


A large silver gilt eight pointed star, each point composed clusters of individual enameled rays, obverse centre presenting a blue enameled golden kite (the messenger of the kami as described in the ancient Japanese chronicle Nihon Shoki, which helped Emperor Jimmu defeat his enemies in battle), with two yellow enameled crossed swords with silver hilts, vertical at centre is a halberd in green enamels and white trappings, two red enameled banners flank the halberd displaying the mitsu tomoe Shinto symbol, obverse with dual stays and a principle pin assembly.

History


Order of the Golden Kite (金鵄章) is a military decoration of Japan. The order was established with 7 class and only award to Military men or non-combatant service men.
The suggestion and prototype design of the order were submitted in 1887 and should be officially established in that year. However, due to some manufacturing difficulty, the design of the order was reformed in next year. The original design of this order can still be seen in government files in 1888. The order was officially established in 1890 with the new proper design.
The order was abolished in 1947.
The awarding of this order follows strict regulations which depends on both military ranks and merits.
The breast star of this order was awarded with 1st and 2nd class.
The 1st class only award to High rank officers who directly under the command of the emperor.
The 2nd class can be award to generals with outstanding merits or field officers with heroic merits.
