History

This is the first and only medal of the Independent State of Manchukuo, which was established from 1932 to 1934. This medal was conferred upon individuals in recognition of meritorious service during the the foundation of the independent state. It was also awarded in commemoration of the 1st anniversary of establishment.

The obverse Japanese characters translate to "National Foundation". The reverse Japanese characters translate to "Great Manchukuo / National Foundation Merit Medal / Ta Tung 1st Year".
