History

This medal is conferred upon military personnel in recognition of gallantry.

It is the second highest Burmese military award for gallantry. It was instituted to replace the British Distinguished Service Order and the Distinguished Conduct Medal.

This medal is a stylized leogryph with a banner that features Burmese script.

It is also known as the "Brave as a Lion Medal".
