Conferred upon members of the Pakistan Armed Forces, Police Forces, and official and non-official civilians in recognition of the inauguration of the Republic of Pakistan on March 23, 1956. A gold medal was conferred upon heads of foreign delegations who attended inauguration ceremonies.
The obverse features an inscription in Nashk script: "Jamhuria Islamia Pakistan" translated as "The Islamic Republic of Pakistan." The reverse features an inscription in English and in Urdu and Bengali.
