History

This medal is conferred by the President of Sri Lanka upon Sri Lankan citizens for extraordinary and meritorious service to the nation. It is the highest honour awarded within Sri Lanka. It can only be awarded to 5 individuals contemporaneously.

This medal is also known as the Pride of Sri Lanka.

It is worn around the neck. This award is also used as a title or prefix added to the name of the recipient. It may include a scroll.
