Physical Description

A circular medal, the obverse bears three lightning bolts on a plain background, encompassed by a wreath, the reverse is plain, with a suspension of two wings, on a half red and half yellow ribbon, with a white upwards facing arrow.

History

This medal was conferred upon foreign or Vietnamese flying personnel for service in air raids over North Vietnam, north of the 17th parallel. The Air Force Northern Expeditionary Medal was authorized by Decree No. 032-a/CT/LDQC/SL of the National Leadership Council signed by Lt. Gen. Nguyen Van Thieu.
