History

The medal was conferred upon Bulgarian mothers in recognition of bearing and raising three or four children.

It was originally awarded in two grades, I Class for four children and II Class for three children.

In 1966, the II Class was cancelled and the I Class was awarded for raising a minimum of three children.

The medal was discontinued entirely in 1991.

The II Class medal was only issued on a bow ribbon and with the 1947 Bulgarian coat of arms on the reverse with the inscription "9.IX.1944."
