History

This Order was founded by the Presidium of the National Assembly and it was awarded to Bulgarian mothers for giving birth to and raising children.

There are three main versions of the Order awards.

The awards issued first were worn on a bow ribbon, and they are numbered on the reverse.

The awards issued second were worn on a bow ribbon, and they are not numbered on the reverse.

The awards issued third have an attached metal bearer that is enamelled with the colours of the Bulgarian flag, and they are not numbered on the reverse.

The Order was discontinued on April 5, 1991.

The I Class features red enamel for the inscription, and it was awarded in recognition of raising 8 or 9 children.
