History

This Title was conferred upon four literary professionals every five years in recognition of prose and poetic works that contributed to peace, socialism, social progress, and democracy.

Recipients of this Title were given the label “Laureate.”

They were also awarded an official “wearer" copy of the award that was meant to be used as an everyday wearable decoration. These copies are stamped “R” on the reverse, and they were officially produced by the Bulgarian Mint from Gilt materials.

The gold used to produce the award ranges from 14-23Kt.

The Gold versions of the award feature the gold mark of the Bulgarian Mint, or the stamp of the master goldsmith that produced the award.

The Title was awarded to 12 individuals before it was abolished in 1990.

It was later was reinstated as an award of the Republic of Bulgaria.
