History

Under the reign of Ferdinand I this medal was instituted by the Ministry of Finance to celebrate the completion of the Yambol-Bourgas Railway.

This medal was the only labour award officially conferred within Bulgarian, and it was issued three times.

The first two times the medals were issued they were produced in non-wearable forms and feature locomotive on the reverse medallion.

The medals issued for the third time were produced in a wearable form and feature a winged wheel on the reverse medallion.

The design of the medals was created by Yosef Kristelbauer, and they were produced in Austria.

The obverse inscription translates to "Ferdinand 1st Prince of Bulgaria".

The reverse inscription translates to "Yambol Bourgas 14 May 1890".

The Large Gold Medal (Non-Wearable) was originally awarded to Prince Ferdinand I, and later it was passed to his mother.

The Small Gold Medal (Non-Wearable) version was conferred upon ministers.
