History

This medal was conferred in recognition of humanitarian efforts rendered during World War I, and for philanthropy and services to the Red Cross following the end of World War I.

The medal was originally awarded in two grades, Silver Medal and Bronze Medal.

In 1929, the Bronze Medal grade was discontinued, and a Gold Medal grade was added.

The Silver Medal was issued twice.

The I Class Gold Medal was issued once and awarded between 1929-1946.

The I Class Gold Medals were awarded to members of the Red Cross in recognition of philanthropy, and for a minimum of 25 years of service to the Red Cross. They feature an obverse inscription that translates to “Bulgarian Society of the Red Cross for Charity,” and a reverse inscription that translates to “For Gratitude.”
