This medal was conferred upon individuals that had demonstrated selflessness and bravery in the face of enemies of the state, and in the defence of the state's borders.
The obverse inscription roughly translates to "For Bravery."
There are two main versions of the medal.
The medals issued first were awarded from 1951-1960, and they feature the inscription "ČSR ZA STATEČNOST" on the obverse.
The medals issued second were awarded from 1960-1989, and they feature the inscription "ČSSR ZA STATEČNOST" on the obverse.
There is a registration number on the reverse of each medal.
