Czechoslovakia, First Republic. An Order of the White Lion, 2nd Class Grand Officer, by Karnet Kysely
(Řád Bílého lva). Institution Date 1922. Crowned Lions. A Large neck badge in silver gilt consisting of a five armed cross with red enamels and ball finials, gilt leaflets in each quadrant, obverse centre presenting a large silver crowned Czech lion with national crest, reverse centre with motto PRAVDA VÍTĚZÍ (Truth Prevails), coat of arms of the former parts of Czechoslovakia on each arm (Bohemia, Moravia, Silesia, Slovakia and Carpathian Ruthenia), with hollow leaflet suspension and enameled elongated suspension loop, measuring 59 mm (w) x 120 mm (h - inclusive of suspension loop), on period ribbon, extremely fine.
The Order was officially known as the Czechoslovak Order of the White Lion from 1922-1990.
It was originally founded as an award to recognize meritorious actions that benefited Czechoslovakia by foreign citizens, and was later expanded to also include Czechoslovakian citizens.
The Order awards were awarded within two divisions, the Military Division and the Civil Division.
The Civil Division awards feature a pair of crossed palms within the wreath suspension.
The Military Division awards feature a pair of crossed swords within the wreath suspension.
The awards conferred after World War II feature a de-crowned lion on the obverse medallion.
The Order was designed by Spink & Son, London.
The Grand Officer Neck Badge is the same as a Commander, but is worn with a star.
