Czechoslovakia. An Order of the White Lion, V Class Knight, by Karnet & Kysely
Řád Bílého lva. Instituted in 1922. Military Division. A silver gilt with red, silver, blue and black enamels, dual hallmarked and maker marked "KK" (Karnet & Kysely of Prague) on the ring, measuring 43.8 mm (w) x 62 mm (h) inclusive of its wreath of linden leaves and crossed swords suspension, repair evident in the red enamels on two arms on the obverse, scattered gilt wear, on its original ribbon with hook and eye, very fine.
The Order was officially known as the Czechoslovak Order of the White Lion from 1922-1990.
It was originally founded as an award to recognize meritorious actions that benefited Czechoslovakia by foreign citizens, and was later expanded to also include Czechoslovakian citizens.
The Order awards were awarded within two divisions, the Military Division and the Civil Division.
The Civil Division awards feature a pair of crossed palms within the wreath suspension.
The Military Division awards feature a pair of crossed swords within the wreath suspension.
The awards conferred after World War II feature a de-crowned lion on the obverse medallion.
The Order was designed by Spink & Son, London.
The I Class is also known as the Grand Cross.
