History

This medal was instituted by Prince Bishop Petar II Petrović-Njegoš as the first Montenegrin medal. It was conferred in recognition of gallantry during conflict. It was awarded until 1919.

The Type IV medals were manufactured by the Arthus Bertrand, Paris and an unknown mint.

The Bravery Medals produced throughout WWI by French Mints feature ball-shaped suspensions.

The gilt version of this medal is unofficial.
