The gold and silver grades of this medal are identical in appearance to the medal of the Red Cross of the Kingdom of Serbia, only differing in the coat-of-arms and the inscription.
The image of the Kosovo Maiden on the reverse was illustrated by the Croatian painter Ferdo Quiquerez (1845-1913).
When this medal was conferred to women it was awarded on a bow ribbon.
