History

The Decoration for Meritorious Activists of Physical Culture was established by the Polish People's Republic in 1950 and amended in 1971. It was awarded to Polish citizens and foreigners who promoted and made significant contributions to physical education and culture in Poland. It was discontinued following the collapse of the communist regime in 1989, but a similar award was established by the Republic of Poland in 1996.

The III Class Decoration was created in 1971.

There are three different versions of the II Class Decoration that differ in reverse inscription. The first version features a reverse inscription that can be translated to "Central Committee for Physical Culture and Tourism," the second version features a reverse inscription that can be translated to "Central Committee for Physical Culture and Sport," and the three version features a reverse inscription that can be translated to "Committee for Youth and Physical Culture." All three versions feature an obverse inscription that can be translated to "Meritorious Activist for Physical Culture."
