History

The Cross for the September Campaign was established by the Government of the Republic of Poland in exile in 1984 on the 45th anniversary of the Invasion of Poland. It was later recognised by the Republic of Poland following the collapse of the communist regime, although it was never awarded by the new government.

It was awarded to Polish military personnel who participated in operations against German and Soviet forces during the Invasion of Poland, as well as to civilians who fought alongside Polish forces or made other contributions to defence efforts. It could also be awarded posthumously by request of the family of the deceased.

The Silver Cross features initials that stand for "Rzeczpospolita Polska" (Republic of Poland) and an inscription that translates to "September" on the obverse.
