History

The Decoration for Merit in the Defence of Human Rights was established by the Republic of Poland in 2009 and is currently administered by the Polish Ombudsman. It is awarded to Polish citizens and organisations in recognition of meritorious contributions to the protection and promotion of human rights. It may also be awarded to foreigners and foreign organisations.

The Silver Medal features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "I Shall be Judging Your Justice," and a reverse inscription that can be translated to "For the Sake of Mankind, Human Rights Spokesperson." The reverse also features initials that stand for "Rzeczpospolita Polska" (Republic of Poland).
