History

The Medal for Devotion and Courage was established by Alexandru Ioan Cuza in 1864. It was awarded to Romanian citizens in recognition of rescues and other acts of bravery performed during the floods of Bucharest in 1864. No awards were made after Cuza was forced to abdicate in 1866.

The Silver Medal has a reverse inscription that translates to “Devotion and Courage.”
