History

The Medal of the Ruling House was originally created in 1910 as the decoration that was associated with the Princely House Order of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. The Romanian Medal was later instituted by King Carol II in 1935. It was awarded to Romanian citizens in recognition of meritorious service rendered to the Royal Family, but it was discontinued a short time later following the abdication of King Carol II in 1940.

There are two models of the II Class Medal. The first features a Romanian eagle with the shield of Hohenzollern and the second features the crowned shield of Hohenzollern. Both models have an obverse inscription that translates to “Nothing Without God,” and a reverse inscription that represents the date of when the II Class Medal was founded in the Imperial German award. The II Class Medal could also be awarded with swords in recognition of wartime merit from 1937-1940.
