The medal was conferred in commemoration of the reform of coinage under the reign of Sultan Abdulmecid in 1840. It also commemorates the 5th anniversary of the Sultan's coronation. It was awarded to those who worked on the coin reform, powerful national citizens, and foreign dignitaries and emissaries.

The title of this medal translates as the "Medal for the Adjustment of the Standard Coins".

The obverse features the cypher of Sultan Abdulmecid.
