History

The Order was instituted by Sultan Mahmud II. It was conferred for general merit, and was commonly awarded to foreigners.

The Order is also known as the Order of Glory or the Order of Iftihar.

It was replaced by the Order of Medjidjie in 1852.

The obverse of all the Order's versions feature the cypher of the Sultan Mahmud II.

There are five variants of the centerpiece. The first variant includes an ovular medallion, bearing the tughra of Sultan Abdulmecid within a sixteen-pointed star, above the Arabic inscription "Nisan-i Iftihar" within a scroll-like cartouche and the date 1255/1839 within an oval below.

The second variant is an ovular centerpiece bearing the image of an open book at the top, with the tughra of Sultan Abdulmecid within a sixteen-pointed star, above the Arabic inscription "Nisan-i Iftihar" and the date 1255/1839 within an oval below.

The third variant is an ovular centerpiece with the tughra of Sultan Abdulmecid within a sixteen-pointed star.

The fourth variant is an ovular centerpiece with the tughra of Sultan Abdulmecid within an ovular sixteen-pointed star.

The fifth variant is a round centerpiece with the tughra of Sultan Abdulmecid within a rounded sixteen-pointed star.

Orders were inheritable, but could not be worn by heirs.
