The Portuguese Red Cross Commendation Medal is awarded to individuals or groups who have received written statements of praise from the leaders of the Portuguese Red Cross. Recipients may only be awarded one medal, however, a ribbon clasp may be awarded which is inscribed with the number of additional citations.

There are two versions of the Bronze Medal that differ in inscription. The first features a reverse inscription that translates to "Society of the Portuguese Red Cross." The second features a reverse inscription that translates to "Portuguese Red Cross." Both versions feature an obverse inscription that translates to "Deserved Praise."
