History

The Queen Amelia Medal was established in 1895 in commemoration of successful overseas campaigns in India and Mozambique. It was later extended to recognise additional pacification campaigns in the Portuguese Empire, but it was discontinued when the First Portuguese Republic was established in 1910.

The Queen Amelia Medal is classified into two types according to the change in form and addition of campaign clasps.

There are two versions of the Copper Medal that differ in inscription. The first has a reverse inscription that translates to "Expedition to Mozambique, 1894-1895," and the second has a reverse inscription that translates to "Expedition to India, 1895."
