A circular medal constructed of bronze, the obverse bears the bust of Carlos VII with a laurel crown, encompassed by a border inscribed with LA FE Y AL HEROISMO DEL EJERCITO REAL DEL NORTE, encompassed again by a border of laurel with four fleur de lis, the reverse bears the inscription BATALLAS DE VIZCAYA DE ENERO A MAYO 1874, with a crown suspension on a green ribbon.

The medal was conferred upon the forces within the North Army for the fray of Vizcaya.
