History

The Cross for the Fugitives of Portugal was instituted in Spain by King Ferdinand VII on June 22, 1815. It was founded in recognition of the members of the Spanish Regiments Murcia and Inmemorial, who escaped from the French army in Portugal to go to Spain to fight against the French occupation army during the Peninsular War.
