History

The Cross of Castello de Ampurias was founded in Spain by King Ferdinand VII on March 25, 1817. It was conferred upon the members of the Army of Catalonia commanded by the Marquis of Lazán, who fought against French troops led by General Saint-Cir at the town of Castello de Ampurias (Castelló d'Ampuries) on January 2, 1809.

The Cross features a reverse inscription that translates "January 2, 1809."
