History

The Cross of Tarragona was founded in Spain by King Fernando VII on May 14, 1815. It was awarded to the troops under command of Marshal Don Juan Senan de Contreras, in recognition of their efforts during the French siege of Tarragona in 1810.

The I Class Cross was wore with a neck ribbon, while II Class Cross was wore on the chest.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "Death rather than surrender."
