A circular medal constructed of bronze, the obverse bears the image of two soldiers with weaponry, the reverse bears the inscription 2A GUERRA DE LA INDPENDENCIA 1808 1936, on a red, yellow and purple striped ribbon.

History


The Medal for the 2nd War of Independence was established by decree on January 23, 1938. There is limited information regarding this item.

The Peninsular War, or the Guerra de la Independencia (War of Independence) was fought from 1808 to 1814. The British, Portuguese and Spanish forces opposed the French forces. During the war, Ferdinand VII was forced to abdicate the throne. At the end of the war, in March 1814, Ferdinand VII returned to Spain and the throne.

The Second War of Independence refers to the Spanish Coup of 1936 in which the military staged an uprising to overthrow the government of the Spanish Second Republic.
