A circular medal constructed of bronze, the obverse bears the image of an anchor with a star with rays the the top encompassed by a border inscribed with SOCIEDAD ESPANOLA DE SALVAMENTO DE NAUFRAGOS 1880, the reverse bears the inscription PREMIO A LA ABNEGACION Y AL HEROISMO encompassed by the inscription PRIMER PRESIDENTE EL ALMIRANTE MARQUES DE RUBALCAVA, with a horizontally elongated suspension loop, on a red ribbon with a white stripe.
