History


The Order of Constitutional Merit (Orden al Mérito Constitucional ) was established by the first minister Felipe Gonzales on November 18, 1988. It is conferred upon foreign and national citizens, groups, and corporations that have provided significant service towards the advancement of the values and principles delineated within the Spanish Constitution.

The Order has an unique grade.

This Order is considered the highest award for constitutional matters in Spain.

The Medal could be awarded either on a breast ribbon or a silk cord.

Legal entities are awarded with a silver plaque.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "To Constitutional Merit," and a reverse inscription that translates to "Constitution of Spain 1978."
