History

Established by the Swedish Armed Forces, this Medal is conferred upon military personnel who, during international operations, have been wounded in wartime.

Foreign military personnel are eligible to receive this Medal if the individual has rendered service, and was wounded, while under the command of the Swedish Armed Forces.

This Medal is conferred on a red ribbon consisting of a black stripe down the middle. The red is intended to symbolize the blood shed of the recipient, and the black is intended to symbolize mourning.

The Silver Medal is conferred upon individuals who have been wounded in wartime.

If an individual has already received the Silver Medal, and again has been wounded during wartime, a star shaped clasp is added on the ribbon.

A second star shaped clasp may be added if the individual is wounded an additional time.
