History

The Order of Saint Rita of Cascia was founded in the Vatican States circa 1900. It is believed that the Order was awarded to the priests and bishops who participated in the canonization of Saint Rita of Cascia by Pope Leo XIII in 1900.

Saint Rita was an Augustinian nun who born in Italy in 1381, and died in 1457. She was beatified in 1626 by Pope Urban VIII and canonized in 1900 by Pope Leo XIII as Patroness of Impossible Causes. Nowadays she is venerated as a saint in the Roman Catholic Church.

The motto of the Order contains the due dates when she was beatified and canonized, as well as the names of Popes Leo XIII, and Urban VIII.

It is a very rare decoration.
