History

This cross was awarded by Emperor Karl I in commemoration of his granduncle Emperor Franz Joseph I. On June 22, 1918 a design was approved.

The cross was conferred upon all individuals, male and female, that had served in close contact with Emperor Franz Joseph I between December 2, 1848-November 21, 1916, including court servants and palace guards. It was worn on the right breast.

The I Class was to be awarded to high court nobility, officials and their peers. It is composed of bronze and is gold plated.

The II Class was particularly for servants and minor officials. This decoration is silver plated.

The obverse features the signature of the Royal court medalist "R.MARSCHALL".
