History

This medal was instituted by Emperor Franz Joseph I and it was conferred upon members of the armed force for long service during a national crisis.

Specifically, the medal was awarded to members of the Army, Navy, and auxiliary forces, like voluntary medical staff, to recognize four weeks of active service or duty within the mobilized combat troops that were formed as a preparative measure during the Balkan Wars.
