History

The Queen Elisabeth Medal was first created on September 15, 1915, and finalised on May 14, 1919. It was awarded to individuals who provided at least one year of care for the victims of the First World War before September 10, 1919. Recipients who served in hospitals received a bronze medal suspended by a red cross. No medals were awarded after December 31, 1924.

The obverse inscription translates to "Elisabeth Queen of the Belgians," and the reverse inscription translates to "For the Country, Honour, and Charity."
