History

The Order of the Star of Honour was established by the Belgian Provisional Government in January, 1831. It was meant to be conferred upon Belgian citizens in recognition of civil and military service that secured the independence of the nation and outstanding dedication to Belgian independence.

The Belgian Provisional Government did not actually possess the authority to create a national order, and the Order was discontinued only five months later on May 28, 1831. Although some examples exist in public collections, the Order was never officially awarded.

The obverse inscription translates to “Fatherland,” and the reverse inscription translates to “Liberty.”
