Replacing the Medal for those Killed or Wounded in Service, this medal is awarded to recognize civil and military Armed Forces personnel who have become disabled or severely physically injured as a repercussion of accidents, attacks, war or terrorist attacks while in combat, as well as, nationals and foreigners who have benefited the Danish Defence Force and have gotten injured whilst doing so.
The reverse inscription includes the date of enrollment of the recipient being awarded.
Individuals who have been awarded this medal for a second time may receive a silver oak leaf clasp on it's ribbon, and individuals who are being awarded this medal for a third time may receive a gold oak leaf clasp on it's ribbon.
