History

Established by King Christian IV, this Order had one grade and was awarded to noblemen who had rendered exemplary service during the Kalmar War against Sweden in the years 1611-1613.

The Order was only awarded on it's institution date to 12 nobles knighted that day.

In present day, there are only three badges known to exist. One resides in the Rosenborg Castle, another at the Museum of National History and the third in a private, unknown collection. There is also a prototype badge that resides in the Rosenborg Castle.

The prototype of this Order features the monogram for King Christian V, which some sources believe was an indication of the King intending to re-institute the Order.

Suspended from two gold chains, the arm of this Order was a symbol representing the trials of the establishment of Protestantism.

Multiple jewelers were ordered to create the Knight, and because of this, each Knight awarded was slightly different from the others.
