The Cross was was instituted in 1940 and awarded to participants of the defence of the Karelian Isthmus.
The Finnish name of the cross is "Keski-Kannaksen risti".
The Cross of the Central Karelian Isthmus Battle with an eyelet and loop for ribbon suspension has on the face silvered crossed swords. On top is a snowflake imposed centrally. The reverse is plain.
