(Suomen Valkoisen Ruusun Ritarikunta). Instituted in 1919 by the regency of Gustaf Mannerheim. Type I. Pre-1944 issue. In silver, a consisting of a white enameled Saint George Cross, featuring gilded Finnish lions holding a sword in each quadrant, obverse bearing an enameled white heraldic rose with a blue enameled background, reverse without central piece, integral ring presenting Finnish hallmark “813H” (813 Hopea = Silver), together with the Finnish “National Crown” hallmark, marked by maker’s mark of "A. T.”, A. TILLANDER, a main Finish firm that merged together with the Lindeman’s firm around 1918, measuring 50.18 mm (w) x 54.87 mm (h - inclusive of the integral ring), with toned silver, enamel contact, very fine. Accompanied by the star of the Order, also in silver consisting of a five-pointed rayed star, depicting three gilded rays in each quadrant, obverse centre featuring a white heraldic rose on a blue enameled background, surrounded by the inscription ISANMAAN NYVAKSI, reverse with vertical pinback, hallmarked by Helsinki city mark, from 1919, “813H” (813 Hopea = Silver), together with the “National Crown” hallmark, maker’s mark of Viktor Lindman, measuring 77.70 mm (w) x 77.68 mm (h), heavily toned silver, remains good/fine.
The Order was established by Baron Mannerheim as an award to recognize foreign and Finnish military personnel and civilians for outstanding service to Finland.
