History

The Medal for Distinguished Ushers was created by Pierre-François Palloy at the beginning of 1792, and was presented at the National Assembly on March 11, 1792.

The Medal was specifically made for the ushers of the National Assembly from the remains of the Bastille. The Medal continued to be worn for some time in the National Convention, but it was replaced in late 1793. See National Convention Medal (Ushers).

It is not clear if the composition of the Medal denotes the rank of the recipient.

The obverse inscription translates to “Usher of Distinction in the National Assembly,” and the reverse inscription translates to “The Nation, The Law, The King.”

The Medal for Distinguished Ushers is translated from French "Huissier d'Honneur a l'Assemble Nationale."
