History

The Decoration for the Resister was created on October 21, 1963 by Jean Sainteny, Minister of Veterans and Victims of War. It was awarded to French citizens who were subjected to Compulsory Labour Service (Service du travail obligatoire) in Germany during the Second World War. Recipients had to have a Resister Card that was administered by the Ministry of Veterans and Victims of War.

The obverse inscription translates to “I Fought a Good Fight,” and the reverse inscription translates to “To the Resisters, War of 1939-1945.”

There may be additional versions of the decoration that vary in size or composition.
