History


This Decoration was created in 1893 by the members of the Society for Veterans of 1870-1871. The Society was founded on January 1, 1893 and dissolved in 1953.

The obverse inscription, the motto of the society, translates to “Never…Forget!”

The Decoration is an unofficial award created and worn by veterans of 1870-1871. Because there was no official mandate of fabrication, there are many different versions of this decoration. The following variables may be encountered: size; composition; manufacturer; clasp; ribbon.
